GroceryAid

CiC is proud to announce a new critical incident service partnership with GroceryAid, “the national charity that helps people across the whole of the grocery industry – from the largest factory through the supply chain, to the smallest store.

Funded by The Leverhulme Trade Charities Trust, the service will provide support to workers within the grocery industry to help deal with the trauma of witnessing or being involved in a critical incident in the workplace.

Workers will be referred by GroceryAid’s 24/7 confidential helpline when an accident, robbery or assault has occurred in the workplace resulting in a critical incident and if an employer, witness or victim contacts the helpline.

If after an initial assessment a site visit is required, CiC will pick up the case on behalf of GroceryAid.

We will carry out a full assessment of the situation and if onsite support is the best solution, timings will be agreed for our professionals to attend the site for a half or a full day depending on the number of staff involved.

Our support may provide group or 1-2-1 sessions on coping with trauma depending on the situation, providing practical advice and tools to help individuals manage their feelings and emotions.

In 2018, 12,315 grocery industry workers or their immediate family contacted GroceryAid’ s helpline, and according to the Association of Convenience Stores’ Crime Report 2018, there were 9,304 robberies, and 3,960 incidents where a weapon was used.

Critical incident services prioritise the wellbeing of the individuals involved, giving them the tools and support they need to cope with the situation. The service will help staff and managers understand human reactions to a crisis and learn more about supporting those involved.
